Road info
The Temple Basin Carpark is located beside State Highway 73, 4 kms west of Arthur's Pass Village. The road is sealed and well maintained so chains are rarely needed. The free goods lift which carries all gear and supplies up the mountain, is also located beside State Highway 73 but 800m further west from the carpark. The access walking track starts from the west end of the carpark.
Weather Comment
Inversion layer below the lodge with clear skies above, expecting a lovely blue-sky day with conditions improving as the day goes on and temps drop.
Information
Temple Basin is open today, 15th of August! Plenty of snow in the upper terrain, good base in Downhill Basin and in Upper Bills. Downhill tow will be spinning fun in the sun today. The overnight low (at reporting time) was/is 2.7 degrees at the lodge. After a cold, clear night, our snowpack will be locked up. The corn harvest will begin around 10 am on sunny aspects in Downhill Basin. Harvestable conditions will continue through the afternoon as new aspects get exposed to the sunshine. We'll be watching the freezing level as this next southerly storm comes in with cold temperatures, which will lock up our upper elevation snowpack. An inversion layer of clouds sits below the lodges, with sunny skies up top; we're expecting spring-like conditions in the field today. Temple tow has just enough snow for sporty access up to the walking track - advanced tow riders only. See you up here! Accommodation can be booked at templebasin.co.nz/about/accommodations/ *Walking Track* - Take care on the track in the early morning as the section between lodge and Twin Creek Bridge is icy.
